The darker the night, the brighter the day
My path to QUAMA - no, to myself - was not a straight line. It arose from personal challenges in my teenage years. At that time, I felt empty and had no concrete goal in mind, but even then I longed for meaning and felt my need for competence. However, most of my friends at that time had no goal-oriented power in their lives and were lost in consumerism and superficialities.
Although I sometimes gave in to the temptations of my friends, my true passion was always the craft, the need to create something lasting with intention and depth. Participating in my friends' behaviors only led to a growing emptiness and disappointment within me, as I felt that this was not the path I truly wanted to take.
Over time, I learned to identify these recurring patterns in people and moved further and further away from them. Even though this was one of the most important steps, it still didn't get me to my goal, but it was the right direction.
But life catches you off guard if you are unprepared.
Suddenly, I repeatedly experienced the deep pain of losing the people closest to me. From one moment to the next, I lost part of my identity, my support. My worldview partially collapsed.
My reactions were emotional withdrawal, escape into solitude and nights full of self-doubt. I doubted myself a lot, every challenge I faced during this time
pushed me into deeper self-reflection and repeatedly painfully exposed my mistakes.
Despite this painful phase – or perhaps because of it – my will to find my purpose and to develop further was stronger than ever.
Amidst these internal struggles, I found solace in memories of a simpler time when I was a child, romping about in the woods, walking with my parents. I loved building huts out of sticks and leaves, barricading myself in self-designed hiding places, and watching the wind gently blow across the fields.
Experiencing nature gave me so much joy that I found my favorite activity in the Boy Scouts. We used Opinel knives to carve spears, small figurines and other utensils - this was the origin of my passion for blacksmithing.
As I reminisced, I thought back to the first time I held a masterfully crafted pocket knife in my hand.
I could feel the intensity of the creator's dedication. It was not just a tool, but a testament to purpose and depth - values that have been lost in today's superficial, mass-produced world.
When I thought back to that moment many years later, a realization dawned on me:
This object represented exactly the values that I wanted to live by. The values that I could even feel and see when I held the pocket knife in my hand. Through the way it felt comfortable in my hand, how delicately the blade was ground, how carefully the wood was worked.
I realized how far I was from such true authenticity and meaning. It was a moment of clarity that forever changed my perception of lifestyle, quality and craftsmanship.
At that moment, I fully realized that a fundamental transformation was inevitable. It was time to get serious and make a profound, lasting change. I then shifted my focus to resilience, quality and determination. This determined change marked the beginning of my new, serious life and endeavor.
This personal development was not just an overcoming of the events of that time. It was a fundamental transformation of my outlook on life and my approach to life, which anchored in me a burning need for transformation and a purposeful life.
I knew that this time I would not lose sight of my personal growth; I still had too much to learn, too much potential to unleash.
And this potential quickly took on unimagined forms.
Drive
This revelation crystallized into a determined vow – to become a man of dedication, integrity and competence, a Quality Man.
As I worked on myself every day, I became more and more aware of my whole mission: it is my destiny not only to live these values for myself, but to manifest and strengthen them through my work in the world.
The founding of QUAMA therefore became inevitable.
